The best AI prompt generator writes for the model you'll paste into. Seven free and paid options compared for image, video and ChatGPT prompts.
The best AI prompt generator is the one that writes for the kind of model you'll paste into. An image model wants the subject, light, framing and style spelled out; a video model also needs the action and the camera movement; ChatGPT or Claude works best with a role, a task and an answer format. So for a quick prompt from a rough idea, pick a generator that asks whether you're making an image, a video or a chat request. If you already have a picture you like, an image-to-prompt tool is faster, and if you're writing prompts for an app's API, OpenAI's and Anthropic's developer consoles are built for that job.
For most people, we'd start with Zemith's free AI Prompt Generator. We built it, so take that with the usual grain of salt, but it does the thing above: you type an idea in a few words, choose Image, Video, Chat or Photo edit, and get one detailed prompt plus three variations. You can try it without an account, and a free account gets a few prompts every day. When a prompt looks right, one tap opens it in Zemith's Creative Studio, its image editor or a new chat. Generating the image or video itself is on Zemith's paid plans: Plus is $15.99 a month and includes Veo and Kling video.

ChatGPT Plus from Suprmind's ChatGPT Plus price tracker, because chatgpt.com/pricing returned 403 to our requests. A good one asks what you're making and then fills in what you'd forget. A one-line idea like "a cabin in the snow" leaves the model to guess the time of day, the camera angle, the style and the mood, and it usually guesses something generic. The useful generators add those details, keep what you asked for, and give you a few different takes so you can compare.
This is what each kind of prompt should cover. It's the checklist we wrote Zemith's generator around, and you can use it by hand with any model:
Yes. You can try it without signing up, and a free Zemith account gets a few prompts every day, which refill daily. Paid plans give you many more.
Here's what it does, as of October 2026:
--ar parameter.Prompts come back in the language you type in, so an idea written in Spanish gets a Spanish prompt. The exception is Midjourney and Flux: those come back in English, because those models follow English best.
They can, and for chat prompts they're a fine choice, especially if you want to go back and forth. The catch is that you have to know what to ask for. "Write me a Midjourney prompt for a cabin" gets you something usable, but rarely the lighting, framing and camera details you'd get from a tool that's built to ask.
If you'd rather stay in ChatGPT or Claude, paste this once and fill in the brackets:
You are an expert prompt writer for [image / video / chat] AI models.
Turn my idea into one ready-to-paste prompt for [model name].
Idea: [your idea in a few words]
For an image, cover subject, setting, style, lighting, composition, color palette and mood, in one or two paragraphs of plain prose.
For a video, describe one 5 to 10 second shot with the action, shot type, camera movement, pacing and lighting.
For a chat request, use labeled parts: Role, Task, Context with [placeholders], Constraints, Output format.
Then give 3 meaningfully different variations. Both have free plans. You'd pay only if you hit their free limits: ChatGPT Plus is $20 a month, and Claude Pro is $20 a month or $17 a month billed yearly.
Most dedicated prompt generators we looked at stop at text and images. Jotform's, for example, lists text and image models only. That's a real gap, because video prompts fail differently: too much happens in one clip, or the camera move isn't stated, and the model fills the gap with jittery motion.
Zemith's generator has a Video target with Veo, Kling and Wan as model hints. It writes one continuous shot, states the shot type and camera movement, and keeps the action small enough for the clip. The prompts are plain natural language, so they also work in other video tools; there's no model-specific syntax to strip out.
If you then want to render it, Generate this video opens Creative Studio with the prompt filled in and models such as Veo, Kling and Wan. Video generation is on Zemith Plus ($15.99 a month) and up. The AI video generator page lists the models.
When you already have the picture. Writing a prompt from scratch to match an existing image is slow; reverse tools do it from the image itself.
If you're choosing between image models for the result, our Midjourney vs Nano Banana comparison for product photos covers that side.
For ideas, yes. PromptHero says you can search millions of prompts for models such as Midjourney, Flux, Nano Banana, Stable Diffusion, Veo and Kling, and seeing a prompt next to its result teaches you a lot about what words do. It's less useful when you know what you want and need a prompt for your own idea. PromptHero's paid plans are mainly for generating images on its site: Starter is $16 a month and Pro $24 a month, both billed yearly.
--ar. Zemith writes clean prompts without weights or extra flags; add them yourself. We read each tool's own page on October 8, 2026: Jotform's generator page, PromptHero's homepage and pricing, Claude's pricing page and OpenAI's Playground help article. Midjourney's docs, chatgpt.com and OpenAI's help center returned 403 to our requests, so those facts come from search results and the third-party sources named under the table. Zemith's behavior comes from the tool's own code and interface text, re-checked on October 10, 2026. We didn't run blind quality tests between generators; try two of them on the same idea and keep the one whose prompts you edit least.
If you just need a good prompt from a rough idea, start with a generator that asks what you're making. Zemith's AI Prompt Generator does that for images, video, chat and edits to your own photo, it's free to try without an account, and when the prompt is ready you can use it in chat or, on a paid plan, make the image or video in the same app. Keep Midjourney Describe or Image to Prompt for when you already have the picture, and the developer consoles for API work.
