Cheaper ElevenLabs Alternative for Long Text to Speech (2026)

A cheaper ElevenLabs alternative for long narration: about 500 minutes of text to speech a month for $15.99, with the script writer in the same app. Limits too.

Kevin·

The cheapest ElevenLabs alternative depends on whether you need your own cloned voice. If you do, stay with ElevenLabs Starter at $6 a month or look at Fish Audio, because cloning is where those two earn their price. If stock voices are fine and you mainly need volume, an app that bills text to speech from a larger monthly allowance gives you several times the minutes of ElevenLabs Creator ($22 a month for about 121 minutes) for less money.

That second option is what we'd pick, and it's ours. Zemith Plus is $15.99 a month ($179.88 a year). Its 1.5 million monthly credits cover about 500 minutes of speech with GPT TTS, or about 750 with Kokoro, if you spend them all on audio. You get 76 stock voices across three models, speed control, a delivery instructions box for tone and pace, and MP3 or WAV downloads. The same plan writes the script with GPT, Grok or DeepSeek, and makes the images and video clips for it in Creative Studio, on web, iOS and Android.

TL;DR

  • ElevenLabs Creator is $22 a month for 121,000 credits, about 121 minutes of speech, and Starter is $6 for about 30 minutes, as of October 2026. Both include a commercial license and voice cloning.
  • Fish Audio Plus is listed at $11 a month or $132 a year for 250,000 credits, which Fish Audio puts at about 200 minutes, with voice cloning.
  • Zemith Plus is $15.99 a month. Spent only on GPT TTS, its credits come to about 500 minutes; on Kokoro, about 750. It has no voice cloning.
  • Zemith caps each generation at 4,096 characters (GPT TTS) or 5,000 (Gemini and Kokoro), so a long script goes in chunks.
  • Pick ElevenLabs if you need a cloned voice, the most expressive delivery, dubbing, or a commercial license spelled out in writing.

ElevenLabs vs cheaper alternatives: what do you get per dollar?

Monthly plans in US dollars, checked on October 12, 2026. Minutes are each vendor's own estimate; for Zemith we used ElevenLabs' rate of about 1,000 characters per minute so the numbers compare.

How much narration does $15.99 buy on Zemith?

About 500 minutes a month on GPT TTS, as long as you don't spend the credits on anything else. Here is the math, so you can redo it for your own scripts:

  • GPT TTS costs 3,000 credits per started 1,000 characters, with a 2,000 credit minimum per generation. Kokoro 82M costs 2,000 per 1,000. Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS Preview costs 6,000 per 1,000.
  • A 10-minute YouTube script runs about 1,500 words, roughly 9,000 characters. Pasted as two 4,000-character chunks and one 1,000-character chunk, that's 27,000 credits on GPT TTS.
  • 1.5 million credits divided by 27,000 is about 55 ten-minute voiceovers a month.

On ElevenLabs Creator, the same script uses about 9,000 of your 121,000 credits on Multilingual v2, so about 13 a month (more on Flash, which costs up to half). If you publish two or three videos a week, Creator runs out and Pro at $99 is the next step. That's the gap Zemith fills.

One habit saves credits: Zemith bills each started 1,000 characters, so a 4,096-character chunk on GPT TTS costs 15,000 credits, while 4,000 costs 12,000. Keep chunks at round thousands.

Does a cheaper ElevenLabs alternative sound worse?

Sometimes, and you should hear it before you pay. ElevenLabs is still the reference for emotional range and for voices that sound like a real narrator. Zemith's three models are different tools:

  • GPT TTS (13 voices) reads the language you paste, takes delivery instructions such as "calm, slightly slower, documentary tone", runs from 0.25x to 4x speed, and exports MP3, Opus, AAC, FLAC or WAV.
  • Gemini 3.1 Flash TTS Preview (30 voices) also takes delivery instructions and supports many languages. It costs twice as much per character, so use it when a voice fits a script better.
  • Kokoro 82M (33 voices) is the cheapest, for English (American and British), French, Hindi and Italian, from 0.1x to 5x speed.

The voice picker plays a preview of each voice, so you can compare them on your own script line before generating the full chunk. If none of them sounds right for your channel, ElevenLabs is worth its price.

What changes if your script, voice and visuals live in one app?

The money is only half of it. Most people paying for ElevenLabs Creator also pay for a chatbot to write the script and a tool for visuals. On Zemith Plus, all three are on one plan:

  1. Write. In chat, ask GPT or Grok for a 1,500-word script from your outline, then ask it to split the script into parts of about 600 words at paragraph breaks. That keeps each part under 4,000 characters.
  2. Voice. Open Speech, pick Model and Voice, add Delivery instructions, paste part one and click Generate speech. Download the file and repeat for each part. Every result stays in the History tab.
  3. Visuals. In Creative Studio, make thumbnails and B-roll stills with Nano Banana or GPT Image, or short clips with Veo 3.1 or Kling. Video is billed per second and costs far more credits than audio, so budget for it.

More detail on the voice side is on the AI text to speech page, and the Zemith for content creators page shows the rest of the toolkit. If you're also comparing video plans, our Runway Standard plan alternative post does the same math for clips.

When should you stay with ElevenLabs or pick something else?

  • You need your own voice. Zemith has no voice cloning. ElevenLabs Starter ($6) has instant cloning, Creator has professional cloning, and Fish Audio Plus clones too.
  • You publish on a monetized channel and want the license in writing. ElevenLabs' paid plans list a commercial license. Zemith's terms say you keep ownership of content you submit, but they don't spell out a separate license for generated audio, so read them and decide for yourself.
  • You want dialogue with several speakers in one take. The Speech page uses one voice per generation. Library's Podcast output does make a two-host episode, but from your uploaded sources, not from a script you wrote.
  • You want a reader for PDFs and books. Zemith's Speech page takes pasted text, not uploaded files. Speechify or ElevenReader are built for that.
  • You only narrate a few minutes a month. ElevenLabs Starter at $6 is cheaper, and Zemith's free plan doesn't include enough credits for text to speech.

How we compared

We read ElevenLabs' and Fish Audio's pricing pages on October 12, 2026, and used each vendor's own minute estimates. Zemith's prices, credit rates, voices, character limits and Speech page labels were checked against the product's code the same day. We didn't run listening tests or benchmarks, so compare voice previews yourself.

Bottom line

If you clone your voice or need the most lifelike delivery, ElevenLabs is still the pick, starting at $6. If you narrate a lot with stock voices and also need someone to write the script and make the visuals, Zemith Plus at $15.99 gives you about four times the minutes of ElevenLabs Creator for $6 less, with the rest of the job in the same app.
