Google AI Plus is losing Gemini 3.1 Pro, so Pro at $19.99 is now the cheapest Google plan with it. When Pro is worth it, and a $15.99 option with Claude too.
Google AI Plus vs Pro used to be a question of how much Gemini you wanted. Now it's a question of which Gemini. Under the model access changes Google announced in early October 2026, AI Plus ($4.99 a month in the US) keeps Gemini Flash and Flash-Lite but loses Gemini 3.1 Pro, and the free Gemini app drops to Flash-Lite only from October 9. That makes AI Pro at $19.99 the cheapest Google plan with Gemini 3.1 Pro. Pro is worth it if you also use the 5 TB of storage, Gemini in Gmail and Docs, and Google's video tools. If what you actually want is the Pro model for chat, writing and research, you can get it for less outside Google.
That cheaper route is Zemith. Zemith Plus is $15.99 a month ($179.88 a year) and includes Gemini 3.1 Pro next to Claude 5.5 Sonnet, Grok, Kimi and Mistral in one chat, so you can switch models mid-conversation. Web search, deep research, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, image and video generation and document projects are on the same plan, on web, iOS and Android. If you only need fast everyday answers, Zemith Free still includes Gemini 3.8 Flash for chat.

One thing to know before you read Google's plan page: on October 11, 2026 it still lists 3.1 Pro under AI Plus. Google's notice says Plus subscribers will be told by email when the change reaches them, so the page may lag behind for a while.
Not for much longer. Google's October 2026 notice says AI Plus keeps Gemini Flash and Flash-Lite and loses Pro, with each subscriber getting an email that gives their date. Until that email arrives, you may still see 3.1 Pro in the model picker.
If you bought AI Plus mainly for Gemini Pro, plan for the switch now. The rest of Plus doesn't change: 400 GB of storage, 2x the free usage, Gemini in Gmail and family sharing with up to five others are still there.
It is if you'll use the Google side of it. AI Pro is a bundle: Gemini 3.1 Pro with 4x the free usage, 5 TB of storage across Gmail, Drive and Photos, Gemini inside Docs and Sheets, 1,000 Flow credits a month for Veo video, YouTube Premium Lite, and higher limits in Gemini Notebook, Jules and Antigravity. If you'd pay for 2 TB of storage anyway, the AI part costs you very little.
It's harder to justify if you just want Gemini Pro's answers. Then you're paying $15 a month more than AI Plus for one model, and you're still limited to Google's models when a task suits Claude or GPT better. That's the reader the rest of this post is for.
Use an app that offers Gemini 3.1 Pro as one of its models. Zemith is the one we'd pick, because it puts Gemini Pro next to Claude and the other top models for less than AI Pro, and adds the tools you'd otherwise buy separately.
What changes for you:
A concrete workflow: upload a long PDF, such as a supplier contract, to a Zemith Project. Ask Gemini 3.1 Pro for a plain-English summary of the risky clauses, switch to Claude 5.5 Sonnet and ask it to check the summary against the document, then ask for a one-page Word memo you can send. All of that is on Plus.
Zemith meters usage in credits, so here is the honest math. Gemini 3.1 Pro costs 77 credits per 100 input tokens and 342 per 100 output tokens. A typical exchange, where the model reads 2,000 tokens (your message plus the earlier chat) and writes 800, costs about 4,300 credits. Plus includes 1.5 million credits a month, so that's roughly 350 exchanges if you used nothing else.
Two things stretch it. Shorter chats cost less, because the model re-reads less history. And cheaper models cover routine work: the same exchange on Gemini 3.8 Flash is about 1,800 credits, and on Claude 5.5 Sonnet about 2,700. If you run out, top-ups start at $10 for 800,000 credits.
Google doesn't publish fixed numbers for AI Pro. Its limits are compute-based, refresh every five hours, and stop at a weekly cap. A heavy daily Gemini user may get more Pro messages from Google's $19.99 plan than from Zemith's credits. Someone who uses Pro a few times a day, plus other models and tools, will usually fit comfortably in Plus.
This is where the bundle matters. Plenty of people who pay for AI Pro also pay for Claude Pro, which is $20 a month or $200 a year on Anthropic's pricing page. Over a year:
That's $260 to $300 a year less, before you count the image, video and research tools. The trade is real, though: you give up Google's 5 TB of storage and the Gmail and Docs integration, and you share one credit pool across models instead of two separate allowances. We compared ChatGPT and Claude the same way in Can you get ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro in one subscription?.
For quick questions, summaries and everyday writing, Flash is good enough, and it's what AI Plus and the free tiers lean on now. Pro earns its keep on long documents, careful reasoning, multi-step analysis and writing you'll send to someone. If most of your prompts are short, AI Plus at $4.99 or Zemith Free may be all you need.
If you're unsure, try both on the same task. In Zemith you can ask Gemini 3.8 Flash and then switch the chat to Gemini 3.1 Pro to see whether the difference matters for your work. Our Claude vs Gemini comparison covers how the Pro models differ by task.
Zemith doesn't replace Google One storage, Gmail or Docs, and it can't share a plan with family members the way Google's plans do. See the full Zemith vs Gemini comparison for the rest.
We checked Google's US prices and plan contents on its Gemini subscriptions page and the usage rules in Gemini Apps Help on October 11, 2026. Google's own pages didn't yet show the October model changes, so those come from Google's notice as reported by 9to5Google and other outlets on October 3 to 6, 2026. Zemith's prices, credits and model costs come from its pricing page and model catalog on the same day. We didn't run usage tests; the credit figures are calculated from the published rates.
If you bought Google AI Plus for Gemini Pro, the plan no longer does that job. AI Pro at $19.99 is right when you'll use the storage and the Google apps. If you just want Gemini 3.1 Pro, ideally next to Claude, Zemith Plus at $15.99 gives you both in one chat, with research and real files on the same plan.
