ChatGPT Pro at $200 now gives half the Codex and Work usage. Who should still pay, who should leave, and what Zemith Professional at $29.99 covers instead.
ChatGPT Pro is worth it in October 2026 only if you spend your day in Codex or ChatGPT Work, or you lean on the GPT-6 Pro model every week. Since OpenAI's September 29 announcement, the $200 plan includes 10 times the Plus allowance for Codex and Work instead of 20 times, and GPT-6 Pro in chat drops from 200 to 100 messages a week. If you mostly chat, research, write and make files, you are paying for headroom you no longer get.
For that second group, Zemith Professional is $29.99 a month ($299.88 a year) and puts GPT 6.1 Sol, GPT 6 Astra, Claude 5.5 Opus and Gemini 4 Argon in one app, with 3 million credits a month. It doesn't have Codex or GPT-6 Pro, and we'll say exactly what that means below.
At DevDay on September 29, 2026, OpenAI added a $500 a month Pro tier and cut the allowance on the $200 one. According to Engadget, the $200 plan's included Codex and Work usage falls from 20 times to 10 times what Plus gets, and the GPT-6 Pro cap in ChatGPT falls from 200 to 100 messages a week. The $500 tier has the largest allowance and Ultrafast, which generates up to 300 tokens a second in Codex and Work.
The Next Web adds three details: the new limits start on October 30, existing subscribers keep their current limits until October 29, and OpenAI says it won't bring back the five-hour limit on Pro 200. Existing subscribers also get a one-time usage credit worth $2,500 that expires at the end of the year. OpenAI's own help pages blocked our automated check, so these figures come from press coverage of the announcement. Read OpenAI's Pro page before you cancel or upgrade.
The $100 tier has been around since April 2026 and gives 5 times the Plus usage (TechCrunch).
Keep Pro if one of these describes you:
If you pay $200 and use it for chat, drafts, research and the occasional file, you've been buying a Codex allowance you don't touch. With the cut, the gap between you and a $29.99 plan shrank further.
One cheap test before you switch: look back over the last month and count how many sessions were Codex or Work. If it's close to none, you're the second group.
Plans at list prices, monthly billing unless noted, as of October 2026.
| Plan | Per month | Per year | What you get |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT Plus | about $20 | about $240 | GPT models, standard limits |
| ChatGPT Pro 100 | $100 | $1,200 | 5x Plus usage |
| ChatGPT Pro 200 | $200 | $2,400 | 10x Plus Codex and Work usage for new subscribers, GPT-6 Pro 100 a week |
| ChatGPT Pro 500 | $500 | $6,000 | Highest allowance, Ultrafast |
| Zemith Plus | $15.99 | $179.88 yearly plan | Claude 5.5 Sonnet, GPT 6 Luna, Grok, deep research, files, images, video |
| Zemith Professional | $29.99 | $299.88 yearly plan | Everything in Plus, plus GPT 6.1 Sol, GPT 6 Astra, Claude 5.5 Opus, Gemini 4 Argon, Cloud tasks |
The ChatGPT Plus price is a third-party figure (layer3labs, October 2026) because OpenAI's pricing page localizes and blocked our check. Zemith prices come from its pricing page. Moving from Pro 200 to Zemith Professional saves about $2,100 a year, and from Pro 100 about $900.
Think of it as the chat, research and documents half of Pro, with the three big model makers instead of one. The reason to pick it is that most people who pay for Pro use it for exactly that half.
Be honest about this before you cancel anything.
If you're between plans, the cheaper step is Plus at $15.99, which includes Claude 5.5 Sonnet and tools but not the top-tier models. Our ChatGPT Go vs Plus post covers the low end, and Perplexity Max alternative covers the same question for Perplexity's top plan.
We read press coverage of OpenAI's September 29, 2026 announcement (Engadget, The Next Web, TechCrunch) and Zemith's pricing page in October 2026. OpenAI's help and pricing pages returned errors for our automated checks, so every OpenAI figure here is second-hand and may change; confirm it before you pay. Zemith's plans, models, credit rates and Cloud access were checked against its source code on October 28, 2026, and the per-turn credit figures are our own arithmetic, not a benchmark. We didn't run side-by-side tests.
ChatGPT Pro is for people who live in Codex or Work. Everyone else is paying $1,200 to $6,000 a year for capacity they don't use. If that's you, Zemith Professional at $29.99 gives you the top GPT, Claude and Gemini models, deep research and finished files for about 1/8th of Pro 200.
Pay less than one AI subscription and get GPT, Claude, Gemini and more, plus 50+ AI tools.
