Perplexity Computer Alternative With Credits Included (2026)

Perplexity Computer on Pro runs on credits you buy at $1 per 100 after a one-time bonus. A $29.99 alternative for background AI tasks, and when to stay.

Kevin·

Yes, Perplexity Computer comes with Perplexity Pro ($20 a month), but Pro includes no monthly credits to run it. You get a one-time bonus of 4,000 credits that expires after 30 days, and after that every task is paid for with credits you buy at $1 per 100. Perplexity's own examples put a light task at 100 to 350 credits and a heavy one at 875 to 2,275. Only Perplexity Max ($200 a month) includes credits every month: 10,000 of them.

If what you want is an agent that works while you're away, on a schedule, with a predictable monthly bill, the alternative we'd pick is ours. Zemith Professional is $29.99 a month ($299.88 a year) and includes Cloud: you hand a task to an agent, close the app, and get a notification on your phone or in your browser when it's done. Tasks can search the web, run code and build files in a sandbox, make images and use your connected apps, and you can schedule them once, daily or weekly. The 3 million monthly credits that pay for them are the same ones you use for chat with Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok.

TL;DR

  • As of October 2026, Perplexity Pro is $20 a month and includes Computer, but only a one-time 4,000-credit bonus. Extra credits cost $1 per 100, according to Perplexity's help center (June 2026).
  • Perplexity Max is $200 a month or $2,000 a year and includes 10,000 Computer credits a month. Unused monthly credits expire at the end of each billing cycle.
  • Zemith Professional is $29.99 a month with 3 million credits shared by chat and Cloud tasks. Cloud allows up to 3 active tasks at once, 35 active schedules, and up to five hours of runtime per task.
  • Perplexity Computer does more in some areas: hundreds of connectors (including Gmail, Slack and GitHub), sub-agents and long-running jobs. Zemith Cloud doesn't run deep research and has no live browser.

Is Perplexity Computer worth it on Pro?

It's worth it if you run a few big jobs a month and don't mind paying per job. It gets expensive if you want something running every day.

The math is simple once the bonus is gone. Perplexity's help center lists typical ranges: light tasks 100 to 350 credits, complex tasks 350 to 950, heavy tasks 875 to 2,275, and "mega" tasks 2,400 to 9,800. At $1 per 100 credits, a complex task costs $3.50 to $9.50. A daily complex task for 30 days is $105 to $285 in credits, on top of the $20 subscription. Perplexity also says these figures are examples, not guarantees.

That's why people end up looking at Max. It includes 10,000 credits a month, enough for roughly 10 to 28 complex tasks at the published ranges, for $200. And monthly credits don't roll over.

Purchased credits do last longer: they stay in your account until used and only expire after a year of inactivity. If your agent use is occasional, Pro plus a small credit purchase may be the cheapest option of all.

How is Zemith Cloud different?

It's a smaller agent with a fixed monthly bill. You open Cloud, click New task, describe the job, pick the model, and close the app. The agent works in the background, and you get a push notification (and an entry in Cloud's notifications) when it's finished, when it fails, or when it needs your approval. While it runs you can send follow-up instructions, and you can turn any task into a schedule that runs once, daily or weekly.

Each task can use web search, read pages, run code and make files in a cloud sandbox, generate images and work with your connected apps. Writes to those apps pause the task and ask for your approval first, unless you've chosen to always allow that exact action. Cloud Projects keep their own instructions and optional memory, so a weekly task gets the same brief every time.

Credits come from your normal monthly allowance. A Cloud task costs what its model and tools cost in chat: for example, Claude 5.5 Sonnet uses 46 credits per 100 input tokens and 226 per 100 output tokens, and each web search is 400 credits (Zemith's price lists, October 2026).

Here's an assumed example, not a measurement. A weekly competitor check that runs 6 searches, reads 60,000 new tokens of pages, reuses 200,000 tokens of cached context (5 credits per 100) and writes an 8,000-token report comes to about 58,000 credits:

  • Searches: 6 × 400 = 2,400
  • New input: 60,000 × 0.46 = 27,600
  • Cached input: 200,000 × 0.05 = 10,000
  • Output: 8,000 × 2.26 = 18,080

Professional's 3 million credits would cover about 50 tasks of that size a month if you used nothing else. Real tasks vary a lot with the pages read and the model chosen. Tasks that run code also pay for sandbox time, about 10,000 credits per hour, plus 100 credits per Computer call. If the balance runs out, the task pauses with its progress saved, and top-ups start at $10 for 800,000 credits.

What does a Cloud task look like in practice?

Say you're a founder who wants a short Monday briefing on three competitors.

  1. Create a Cloud Project called "Competitor watch" and put the brief in its instructions: which companies, which pages (pricing, changelog, blog), and the format you want back.
  2. Start a task with Claude 5.5 Sonnet: "Check each competitor's pricing page and changelog, list anything that changed since last week, and save a one-page Word summary."
  3. Close the app. The agent searches, reads the pages, writes the summary and puts the .docx in the task's files. You get a push notification when it's done.
  4. Make it a schedule with New schedule, set to Weekly on Monday morning in your time zone. With Cloud Memory on, it can remember what it found last week.
  5. Send it somewhere. If you've connected Notion, ask it to add the summary to your team page. It asks for approval before writing.

What changes for you: a recurring job stops being something you remember to do, and the cost is part of a plan you already pay for instead of a credit balance you watch. For more on how founders use it, see Zemith for founders and the AI agent feature page.

Perplexity Computer vs Claude Cowork vs Zemith: which fits?

Pick by the job:

  • Perplexity Computer if you want the most capable agent and the job touches tools Zemith doesn't connect to, like Gmail, Slack or GitHub. It can also split work across sub-agents. Budget for credits.
  • Claude Cowork (Anthropic) if you only want Claude and mostly work with files on your own computer. It's rolling out on Claude Pro at $20, which makes it the cheapest of the three if it covers your job.
  • Zemith Cloud if you want scheduled web research, reports and files, with your choice of model per task and one bill for chat, images and agents.

When should you stay with Perplexity?

Stay if you need Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack or GitHub. Zemith doesn't connect to them. Stay if you want to watch an agent click through websites: Zemith's Computer is a headless sandbox, so it can script a browser but there's no live browser to watch or take over. And stay if your agent work is deep research. Zemith runs deep research in chat, not in Cloud, and each run costs 100,000 credits.

Zemith Cloud is also limited to 3 active tasks at once and five hours per run, so it's not built for large parallel jobs or all-day runs. It notifies by push and in the app, not by email. If you only want Perplexity's search and its top models rather than the agent, our Perplexity Max alternative post covers that choice.

How we compared

On October 15, 2026, we read Perplexity's help center articles on credits and on Max, Anthropic's Claude pricing page, and third-party coverage of Perplexity Computer's launch and connectors, since perplexity.ai's pricing page returned an error. Zemith's Cloud features, plan access and credit rates come from its product code and pricing page on the same day. The credit example is arithmetic from published rates for an assumed task, not measured usage, and we didn't benchmark agent quality.

The bottom line

Perplexity Computer is a strong agent, but on Pro you pay for it per task, and only the $200 Max plan includes monthly credits. If you want background and scheduled tasks for research, reports and files at a known monthly price, Zemith Professional at $29.99 is the Perplexity Computer alternative we'd choose, with Claude, GPT, Gemini and Grok in the same plan.
